• The board recognized Etheline Spanier for her retirement after 43 years of service to the Paynesville Area Health Care System.

• The board approved spending $12,500 for the newly-formed foundation to conduct a fund-raising survey. This survey would gauge interest in charitable giving to the new foundation.

One possibility would be a capital campaign to fund improvements in long-term care, said PAHCS CEO Willie LaCroix.

• The board held a public hearing on borrowing $1.85 million in tax-free bonds for the purchase of two facilities from the Good Samaritan Society. No opposition was given. The board then approved borrowing this amount to complete the purchase. The closing date on the purchase was May 29, 2002.

PAHCS has leased the Hilltop Good Samaritan Center in Watkins (now Hilltop Care Center) and the Good Samaritan Care Center in Paynesville (now Washburne Court) for the month of May.

• The board approved the addition of Kevin Zimmer, a registered nurse anaesthetist, to the provisional medical staff. It also accepted the resignation from Charles Leusner, M.D., a radiologist who has changed jobs and will not be coming to PAHCS anymore.
