Psychology services offered on a daily basis
Millions of people are affected by depression each year. It can affect a person's body as well as mind. Depression can lead to withdrawal from people and activities, loss of pleasure and enjoyment in life, feelings of sadness, disappointment or loneliness, or physical discomfort such as aches, pains, fatigue, poor digestion, sleep disturbance, etc. Most of us feel down from time-to-time, but when these feelings continue for an extended period or are severe, professional help may be needed. Depression can affect both young and old. Untreated depression can disrupt work, family relations and social life. It's often ignored, however, it can be treated successfully. Most start feeling better in a few weeks.
Dr. Donna Bahr has worked with individuals and families for over 16 years, dealing with a wide array of problem areas. Depression, manic depression, anxiety, abuse issues, grief and loss, marriage and relational problems, parent-child problems, and behavioral problems are just a few of the areas she addresses. Adjustment problems to life stressors can be very perplexing and may require some assistance from a trained professional. Life changes, death, retirement, illness, changes in the family structure, such as divorce or remarriage, a new baby or stepchildren, etc., can disrupt most anyone's life. Stress can be either positive or negative and may lead to other problems.
Dr. Bahr completed her Doctor of Psychology in December of 1998. She has been a licensed independent clinical social worker [LICSW] since 1991, and will receive her license as psychologist in March of 2000. She is providing psychological services at the Paynesville Area Health Care System and works closely with other health care providers. Most insurances cover services offered by the psychology department. Depression is one of the biggest areas that is addressed. However, adjustment to various life stressors, assessment of attention deficit disorder, or other behavioral problems are also provided by the psychology department. Psychological assessment, cognitive, and personality testing are offered by Dr. Bahr.
Presently, there are two therapists available. Dr. Bahr is providing services every day and Ron Wolter, LICSW is available on Wednesdays. Both therapists will provide late afternoon appointments for those that work or for children who are in school. Mr. Wolter is a Medicare provider and Dr. Bahr will receive her Medicare certification this spring.
