PAHCS has just recently purchased a C-Arm, a new piece of advanced radiographic equipment. When the new operating room is completed, it will allow our specialists to perform knee and hip replacements. We are currently using this equipment for arthroscopic surgery, rotator cuff repairs, foot surgeries, port placement for cancer patients, reconstructive surgery, and fluoroscopy, which allows physicians to observe the internal structures of the body through x-rays.
This new equipment will offer patients the opportunity to come to Paynesville for their knee and hip replacements without having to travel out of town. Following their surgery, patients can spend their time recovering at home or at a skilled nursing facility and continue their rehabilitation with our physical therapists.
The 9800 Series OEC C-Arm is the latest in mobile fluoroscopy imaging technology. It offers a new digital imaging system with exceptional image capture and more anatomical detail than ever before. The C-Arm includes the new Auto-Trak technology, whereby it automatically searches for the subject anatomy and maintains the correct exposure and contrast throughout. What this means to physicians and to patients is that time is spent on the actual procedure and not on retaking the pictures or lining the unit up with the subject anatomy. It is true "point and shoot" technology.
For the technologists and physicians, the unit has a touch-screen display and a hand and foot control allowing for more patient contact and ease of use. The C-Arm can be moved to different angles without the need to lock it in place each time - its new positioning system keeps it in place automatically.
